1. Gymnastics


NADIA COMANECI
Romania’s Nadia Comaneci was the star of the Montreal Olympics in 1976 when she became the first gymnast in Olympic history to be awarded the perfect score of 10.0 and the judges awarded her the maximum mark seven times during the Games.
In the 1976 and 1980 Games she won a total of nine Olympic medals.

























DANIELA SILIVAS


Daniela Silivas is a Romanian gymnast who is most famous for winning six medals (three gold, two silver, and one bronze) in women's artistic gymnastics at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea. Silivas began training in gymnastics at the age of 6 and was one of her country's most promising gymnasts before she was 13 years old.






2. Athletics

IOLANDA BALAS

Iolanda Balas is a Romanian former athlete and an Olympic champion in high jump, considered one of the greatest high jumpers ever.
She won two Olympic gold medals at Rome in 1960 and Tokyo in 1964. Between 1957 and 1967, Balas won 140 consecutive competitions, improving the world record 14 times, from 1.74 m to 1.91 m.



GABRIELA SZABO
Gabriela Szabo is a Romanian track and field athlete, winner of the gold medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics in 5000 m and winner of bronze and silver medals in 1996 Summer Olympics and 2000 Summer Olympics in 1500 m, respectively. Szabo is also a three-time world champion. She remains the European record holder over 3000 m.







CONSTANTINA DITA TOMESCU 

Constantina Dita Tomescu is a Romanian long-distance runner, who specializes mainly in the half marathon and marathon.
Dita won the women's marathon at the 2008 Summer Olympics in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 44 seconds.
At 38 years of age, she became the oldest Olympic marathon champion in history.
  

  
3. Rowing


ELISABETA LIPA

Elisabeta Lipa is a retired rower from Romania.
She is the most decorated rower in the history of the Olympics, winning five golds, two silvers and one bronze. She holds the record amongst rowers for the most years between gold medals, at 20 years.
In 2000,  she was declared the best rower of the 20th century by the International Rowing Federation.
 She won her most recent gold medal in the eight-oared boat at the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004. She is the only person to win a gold medal in the two premiere rowing events: the single scull and the eight oared boat.


4. Swimming 


 

DIANA MOCANU 

Diana Iuliana Mocanu is a former Romanian swimmer. She won gold medals in the 100 meter backstroke and the 200 meter backstroke at the 2000 Summer Olympics. She also won in the 200 meter backstroke at the 2001 World  Aquatics Championship.






 

CAMELIA POTEC 

Camelia Potec is a female Romanian swimmer, who won the gold medal in the women's 200 m freestyle final at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She won the Mare Nostrum in 2004. 





5. Canoeing


 
IVAN PATZAICHIN 

Ivan Patzaichin (born 26 November 1949) is a Romanian sprint canoer who competed from the late 1960s to the mid 1980s. Competing in five Summer Olympics, he won seven medals, more than any other competitor in the history of the Canadian canoeing events. This included four gold  and three silvers.
He also won 22 world championship medals with nine gold.






6. Boxing




LEONARD DOROFTEI



Leonard Dorin Doroftei is a Romanian former boxer, the WBA lightweight world champion from January 5, 2002 to October 24, 2003.





 

LUCIAN BUTE 

Lucian Bute (born February 28, 1980 in Pechea, Galaţi County, Romania) is a Romanian professional boxer living and fighting out of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Bute is the current IBF Super Middleweight champion.
Bute has a professional record of 25 wins (20 KOs), 0 losses and 0 draws.








7.Fencing




LAURA BADEA
 
Laura Badea is a Romanian fencer and olympic champion in foil competition.
She received a gold medal in foil at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta

 






8.Football

GHEORGHE HAGI 

Gheorghe Hagi (Romanian pronunciation: [ˈɡe̯orɡe ˈhadʒi] is a former Romanian football player. He was famous for his passing, close control, long shots and was regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe during the 1980s and 1990s.
Nicknamed "The Maradona of the Carpathians", he is considered a hero in his homeland as well as in Turkey. He has won his country's "Player of the Year" award six times, and is regarded as one of the best football players of the twentieth century.


  

 ADRIAN MUTU
Adrian Mutu is a Romanian striker and attacking midfielder who plays for Italian Serie A club Fiorentina and the Romanian national team.


 







CRISTIAN CHIVU

Cristian Chivu (Romanian pronunciation: [krisˈtjan ˈkivu]) is a Romanian footballer. He is the captain of the Romanian national team and currently plays for Internazionale of the Italian Serie A.
 







Steaua Bucharest football team won the European Cup in 1986 in Seville.
In 1986, the Romanian football soccer team Steaua Bucharest won the European Champions Cup, in the great final against the powerful FC Barcelona. Later on, they also beat Dinamo Kiev for the European Super-Cup.





9. Representative tennis players


ILIE NASTASE

Ilie Năstase (Romanian pronunciation: [iˈli.e nəsˈtase] is a former Romanian professional tennis player, one of the world's top players of the 1970s. Năstase was the World No. 1 tennis player between 1973 (August 23) and 1974 (June 2). He is one of the five players in history to win more than 100 ATP professional titles (57 singles and 45 in doubles).
